Responding to Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) recent report on the London Fire Brigade (LFB), Andrew Dismore AM, Chair of the London Assembly Fire, Resilience and Emergency Planning Committee said,
“Our city is in the midst of a national scandal with the cladding crisis. COVID-19 has caused delays outside of the LFB’s control, however the cladding crisis makes the implementation of recommendations learnt from the Grenfell Tower fire even more pressing. There are 590 buildings in London that require a waking watch system because they are unsafe. Addressing the concerns that today’s report highlights will support leaseholders living in buildings with dangerous cladding.
“Vital work like high-rise evacuation training exercises must be a priority, to give the public confidence that LFB will protect them in the event of another high-rise fire. Our Committee has been calling for movement on this, this training is urgent, and it needs to happen."
