The Adult Education Budget (AEB) funds education and training for adults aged 19 and above.
Many of the qualifications funded through the AEB include basic English and maths skills, basic digital and adult community learning, however they can also include qualifications in specific sectors. These courses are delivered by a range of different providers, including further education colleges, local authorities, independent training providers, institutes for adult learning, sixth form colleges and universities. The AEB does not fund apprenticeships or traineeships.[1]
The Mayor took over responsibility for the AEB in London from central government at the start of the 2019/20 academic year. The GLA is now responsible for commissioning AEB-funded provision to Greater London and has the freedom to set priorities and funding rates, while still being subject to the statutory duties of the Secretary of State.
Tomorrow, at an all-Assembly meeting, London Assembly Members will put questions to the Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills and the GLA's Assistant Director of Skills and Employment:
The guests are:
- Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor for Planning, Regeneration and Skills
- Michelle Cuomo-Boorer, Assistant Director of Skills and Employment, GLA
Following the discussion, London Assembly Members will debate these motions.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, 8 September 2022 from 10:00am in the Chamber at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube
