Europeans in London after Brexit – what can they expect?

European flags
Created on
27 November 2018
  • Around one million EU nationals live, work and study in London
  • That’s over a quarter of the 3.8 million EU nationals in the UK
  • Of the 5.7 million jobs in the London labour market, around 13 per cent are held by people born in the EU

Deal, or no deal, what will be the impact of Brexit on the status of EU nationals living in London?

Tomorrow, the London Assembly EU Exit Working Group will discuss:

  • The status of EU nationals already living in the UK post 29 March – assuming the Withdrawal Agreement is approved
  • In the longer term: a new immigration system for EU nationals wanting to work in London
  • The status of EU nationals already living in London – if there is “no-deal”
  • The impact of Brexit on community cohesion
  • The role of the Mayor and local authorities in supporting EU citizens to claim Settled Status.

The guests are:

  • Professor Charlotte O’Brien, York Law School
  • Christopher Desira, Director, Seraphus, solicitors specialising in migration and EU law
  • Sunder Katwala, Director, British Future

The meeting will take place on Wednesday 28 October from 2.00pm in Committee Room 2 (The Queen’s Walk, London SE1).

Media and members of the public are invited to attend

The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube
