The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) was founded in 2018, following long-held concerns over the effectiveness of the police complaints process.
It handles only the most serious complaints and conduct matters related to the conduct of police officers and forces in England and Wales.
The IOPC has conducted investigations into many recent high-profile incidents involving Metropolitan Police officers, including the stop and search of Team GB athlete Bianca Williams and her partner Ricardo dos Santos.
Does the police complaints system improve public confidence in the Met? And what are the recent successes and failures of IOPC investigations into the force?
The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will meet tomorrow to review recent IOPC investigations into the Met. The guests are:
- Kenny Bowie, Director of Strategy and Policing Oversight, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC)
- Commander Jon Savell, Head of Professionalism Standards and Recognition, Metropolitan Police Service
The IOPC accepted an invitation to the meeting and then withdrew. We hope the IOPC will be answering questions at a later date.
The meeting will take place on Wednesday, 8 June 2022 from 10am, in Committee Rooms 2 & 3 at City Hall, Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE.
Media and members of the public are invited to attend.
The meeting can also be viewed LIVE or later via webcast or YouTube.
