Police Complaints

Key information

Request reference number: 520

Date of response:

Summary of request

I can confirm that your request has been being handled under the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2000 and MOPAC does not hold the information you have requested.

You asked for:
• The number on complaints against the Police that were made to MOPAC in 2021 and 2022
• Also, the number of complaints that were upheld and of the latter, what action resulted.
• I would also like to know if any data is collected on the ethnicity and/or gender of the complainants and if so how that compares to the breakdown between complaints dismissed and complaints upheld.

Our response:

Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) does not deal with initial complaints made by members of the public regarding the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), nor do we hold any data on the outcomes of complaints. Any information such as this would be maintained by the MPS themselves and this request would need to be made to them directly.

MOPAC does not record data about complainant ethnicity and the breakdown of that against complaint outcomes. Again, this request is for the Metropolitan Police Service.

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) may be able to assist you and you can send your request to them, here: https://www.met.police.uk/rqo/request/ri/request-information/rip/reques… Or using this email address: [email protected]
