  1. What tangible processes does the organisation have in place to ensure that staff do not incur maternity discrimination at the GLA and thus return to commensurate roles (as in the legal definition to include status) following maternity leave
  2. Which, if any of those, go over and above statutory requirements?
  3. How does the GLA ensure these polices are implemented?
  4. Is any guidance or training offered to managers as a matter of course?
  5. What is the GLA’s policy or guidelines regarding keeping in touch with staff whilst on maternity leave?
  6. How does the GLA ensure this is implemented?
  7. How many women have taken maternity leave each year at the GLA?
  8. What proportion of those returned to different roles (for example, changes in the number of staff they manage, areas of responsibility etc)?
  9. What were the reasons for those changes and were others in the same teams of equal grades proportionately affected?
  10. How does the organisation monitor this?
  11. What is the organisations’ policies and processes for communicating those changes to staff on maternity?
  12. How many women who left the GLA stated issues regarding their treatment and role changes following maternity in their exit interviews?
  13. How many temporary employment contracts for maternity cover were extended even when staff had returned from maternity?
  14. What were the reasons for those and why did the organisation decide on an extension of the contract rather than other measures?
  15. What efforts does the GLA make to understand whether staff have faced/face maternity discrimination, especially in light of the knowledge that a large proportion of maternity discrimination is not formally reported?
  16. What is the GLA’s exact understanding of maternity discrimination?
  17. Against what criteria would a grievance on maternity discrimination be assessed?
  18. What guidance does HR provide to grievance hearing officers to ensure this is the case?
