Southwark Free School public hearing
In his role of making strategic planning decisions for London, the Mayor may occasionally take over an application, therefore becoming the local planning authority. He must then hold a public hearing before deciding whether or not to grant planning permission.
In this instance, the Mayor took over the application for the redevelopment of Southwark Free School.
Background to the public hearing
On 5 July 2013 Southwark Council advised the Mayor that it was minded to refuse planning permission for the redevelopment proposals at Southwark Free School, 399 Rotherhithe New Road, Southwark.
On 10 July 2013 the Mayor notified Southwark Council that he would act as the local planning authority for the purposes of determining the planning application (under article 7 of the Mayor of London Order 2008 and the powers conferred by Section 2A of the 1990 Town and Country Planning Act).
The Local Planning Authority reference assigned to the application is 13/AP/0065. The GLA reference is D&P3060.
