London Low Carbon Market Snapshot (2019)

This report provides an update on the 2015 London Low Carbon Market Snapshot and quantifies the size and composition of London’s Low Carbon and Environmental Goods and Services. It presents an 11 year time series for the dataset along with a 2019 update to the London Low Carbon Market Snapshot.

The value of London’s Low Carbon and Environmental Goods and Services in 2017/18 was worth £39.7 billion to London’s economy, as indicated by the value of sales it contained over 13,900 businesses, and employed over 246,000 people.

The Low Carbon and Environmental Goods and Services have continued to grow across the time series from £20.9 billion in 2007/08 to £30.4 billion in 2014/15 and now to £39.7 billion in 2017/18. The sector continues to show great resilience and still achieves annual growth rates greater than the UK economy as a whole.

London’s Low Carbon and Environmental Goods and Services have grown by more than nine per cent in London in each of the last two years which is greater than the overall UK growth rate for this sector. Growth in London is expected to continue at over seven per cent at least through to 2021/22.
