You requested:
Why were St Patrick's Day celebrations organised before St Patrick's Day and how much Damien Dempsy cost London and how much the entire event cost Londoners?
Our response is as follows:
The GLA has traditionally held London’s St Patrick’s Day parade and festival on the closest Sunday to St Patrick’s Day itself, as the necessary road closures have less of an impact on a Sunday. Additionally, many from London’s Irish community (and artists) attend the Dublin celebrations which take place on 17 March, St Patrick’s Day, so where possible we try to deconflict with our friends in Ireland.
The GLA does not hold information about the cost of booking Damien Dempsy because this was handled by our programme partner.
The GLA’s spend was £174,583.39. Sponsorship stall and participant income contributed a further £112,258.49 to the event. The London Irish Centre delivered the stage programme with support from their partners and funders.
