EIR - Air pollution statistics [Aug 2023]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA080823-3823

Date of response:

Summary of request

Your request

Confirmation regarding air pollution figures from before charging was introduced to present day figures, bearing in mind that no less traffic travels into London now than before. The only changes I note are electric buses.

Our response

There is no planned expansion of the Congestion Charge zone.

The GLA regularly reports on air quality trends in London. This reporting uses data from the city’s air quality monitoring network to analyse the long term trends in pollution
concentrations.

The most recent modelling is the London Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (LAEI) 2019. You can access the data on the London Datastore.

The GLA regularly reports on the air quality and vehicle reduction impacts of the Ultra Low
Emission Zone, which is a different charging scheme to the Congestion Charge.

This reporting uses data from the city’s air quality monitoring network to analyse the long term trends in pollution concentrations as well as estimating the impacts of the scheme.

You can read the most recent report on the GLA website and find links to the previous reports within.
