Biography
One of the most talented and respected actors of our time, Emma Thompson has received numerous accolades for her work over the years. In 1992, her performance in a film adaptation of E M Forster’s Howards End swept the Best Actress category wherever it was considered, winning her a BAFTA Award, Los Angeles Film Critics Award, New York Film Critics Award, Golden Globe and Academy Award.
Emma is also an award-winning writer: in 1995, her adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay as well as the Golden Globe for Best Screenplay, amongst other awards. She is currently the only artist to have received an Academy Award for both acting and screenwriting.
Emma continues to delight audiences and critics across the world with stellar performances on stage, screen and television too numerous to list, and to receive nominations and awards both for her acting and writing.
In 2011 Emma’s son, Tindy Agaba, was diagnosed and successfully treated for TB at University College London Hospital. In January 2015 she agreed to become the Mayor’s TB Ambassador for London. Emma will work with the Mayor to raise awareness of TB, challenge the stigma associated with the condition, and encourage people to be tested and undergo treatment. Tindy will work with her in this role; on 22 January he supported Victoria Borwick, Deputy Mayor of London, to launch the new TB ‘Find and Treat’ mobile hospital for London.
