EIR - DVLA Letters to registered keepers of non-compliant ULEZ vehicles [Sep 2023]

Key information

Request reference number: MGLA140823-4138

Date of response:

Summary of request

Your request

Can you please tell me how many similar letters were sent out and how many cars in total there are in my area.

Also, when looking at the roads around me that are in and out of the ULEZ area, can you explain why odd roads are in the charged area, but surrounded by out of area roads.

Our response
  • Letters to vehicle owners

Transport for London (TfL) has issued 1,040,280 letters via the DVLA to the registered keepers of non-compliant vehicles identified driving within the now expanded ULEZ. More information about these letters is available here: FOI request detail - Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk)

The GLA does not hold information on the number of cars in Coulsdon.

  • ULEZ boundary

The boundary for the London-wide ULEZ aligns with the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) boundary for heavy vehicles. The boundary has been chosen as it broadly follows the Greater London Authority (GLA) area boundary but is specifically designed to provide opportunities for vehicles to divert from travelling into London, allowing drivers of non-compliant vehicles to avoid the ULEZ if they do not want to pay the ULEZ charge.
