What will I be doing?

  • We are looking for someone technically sound, creative and a team player by nature to (a) help us in the final stages of development of the website (b) be involved in the process of stress testing it and working on it with us to full launch.
  • We also require you to help us develop and improve it during the piloting process of Winter / Spring 2019/20. Ideally we would like you to join our Advisory Board and continue to oversee smooth operation of the website going forwards.
  • As soon as funds permit professional support for the website would be put in place with the appointee to be co-ordinated by and to liaise closely with you from your position on the Advisory Board.

What impact will this have?

  • The Challenge Hub CIC is absolutely not-for-profit. In its loosest sense it is a sort of DofE for the over 55s. It is driven by extensive research into the difficulties of loss of structure post the workplace leading to low self-esteem, isolation, social disharmony and often to depression and mental / physical ill-health. It offers a replacement structure and an opportunity for people to identify with a community.
  • It is also driven by the realisation that the older population are a major resource which can be harnessed to offer a partial solution to strains on the health and social care system caused by an ageing population.
  • The stated objective of The Challenge Hub is to encourage people over the age of 55 to lead their fullest lives and to help others. We say that a fullest life will include pleasure from learning new things, taking physical exercise and making a social contribution. We give coherence to that philosophy through a challenge - The All in One - which calls for achievements in each of those three.
  • To enable the benefits of its 3-pillar philosophy to reach all parts of the community, The Challenge Hub will also operate The Charities Challenge. This is a generic challenge in which Charities register their own service users. Those charities develop their own bespoke challenge with that service user (eg Learning - how to access the internet. Social Contribution - serve meals in the Day Centre instead of being served meals in the Day Cenbtre etc). We certify completion of their challenge to give a sense of achievement.
  • This is a low-cost / potentially high social impact initiative which has been described as potentially transformative. It is publicly endorsed by Public Health England (with a representative on our Advisory Board). We have letters of support from The Open University, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and The School for Social Entrpreneurs. Our Patron is Dame Carol Black. Our Advisory Board and Trustees have diverse skills and experience but not in relation to website development or digital marketing.
  • Please be part of the team which makes this happen.
