What will I be doing?

  • Deliver gardening sessions at a basic level with small groups of young people with learning disabilities
  • Some knowledge in gardening skills would be useful
  • Recognise vocational potential for young people with special needs
  • Allow young people to explore their own learning through the guidance of the team experience
  • To promote learning, help develop skills and encourage active participation in our Edible Garden Work placement sessions
  • The volunteer should have an interest in working with young people with disabilities

What impact will this have?

  • To promote learning and build confidence
  • Help develop skills to potentially enable a young disabled person to move into paid employment
  • Allow young people to explore their of the learning experience

Commitment

  • It is very important that volunteers are committed and reliable as this will require you to help run 6 weekly sessions with small groups of young people
  • Weekdays (Tuesday and Thursday) mornings leaving AFK 10 am till 1 pm

Expenses

  • Reasonable travel expenses are paid

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • Volunteers will receive one-to-one induction programme
  • Volunteers will receive on the role training on the Edible Garden project
  • Volunteers will be Invited to attend staff training sessions when available
