What will I be doing?

  • You will be assisting our Refuge team with a diverse range of administrative duties that would go from answering the phones and taking referrals, sorting out deliveries and donations, to ensuring the smooth day to day running of the refuge, among others.
  • Reporting and logging repairs to the maintenance team and supporting the team with day-to-day housing management (i.e. preparing rooms for new residents, taking inventories for voids, gardening, etc.)

  • Helping out with general office administration tasks such as data entering, filing, photocopying, typing letters, checking invoices, etc.
  • Providing administrative and clerical support to members of the team on various ad-hoc projects (i.e. ordering supplies for events, sorting out donations, etc.)
  • Assisting the team with regular Health and Safety checks including fire drills, fire checks and risk assessments

What impact will this have?

  • You will be helping us to help women and their children to learn how to build positive relationships and regain ownership of their own lives
  • Providing a supportive environment and suitable emergency accommodation to women and children fleeing domestic abuse
  • Empowering women and children, to challenge inequalities and to tackle gender based violence

Commitment

  • We are looking for someone who ideally can dedicate 1-2 days a week with us for at least of 6 months.

    Days and hours can be negotiated as long as they are compatible with our service operation hours: Monday to Friday 9:30 am – 5:00 pm
  • Although based in a refuge, this is a behind the scenes role Assisting with a range of activities that not necessarily involve direct contact with clients.
    Due to the nature of the work, this role is restricted to female only candidates. The Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies.

Expenses

  • We reimburse genuine out of pocket travel expenses (London zones 1- 6) to and from the place of volunteering and up to £5 for lunch expenses.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required
