Location: Old Brompton Road, London, SW5 9JE (see map)

Travel: West Brompton station. Earls Court Square bus stop.

Start date: Ongoing

What will I be doing?

  • You will be responsible for recruiting new volunteers for a variety of roles. So you will be writing and posting advertisements like this one!
  • You will also be looking at other ways to recruit volunteers, and building networks throughout the community to make people aware of the opportunities at Brompton Cemetery.
  • You will be the main coordinator for new volunteers, assisting in their induction, inviting them for introductory shifts and so on, and managing their records so that they are included on our rotas and mailing lists.
  • You will suggest appropriate training, and liaise with the Royal Parks regarding training and enrichment opportunities.
  • You may also be involved in training new volunteers directly, in our systems and in other areas regarding the cemetery.
  • You will keep an overview of our volunteers, providing support where necessary, and updating records if volunteers move on to other things.

This is a new role, so it can develop as the person does it!

What impact will this have?

  • You will help people learn about the Volunteering opportunities available at Brompton Cemetery, and make it easier for them to join our team.
  • You will be a key figure in making volunteers feel welcome and supported, and will assist in placing them in appropriate roles.
  • You will help us keep our volunteer records up to date, and ensure that all volunteers (especially new ones!) receive prompt replies and helpful advice.
  • You will build the number of volunteers we have, enabling our Information Centre and Chapel to open more frequently, and allowing us to enlarge the programme of events and research that we undertake.

Commitment

  • This role is flexible and can be done at times that suit the volunteer. We are looking for someone with ongoing availability, since you will be building relationships with the volunteers.
  • There will be some meetings at Brompton Cemetery, in particular new volunteer induction sessions which are normally offered on some Fridays and Saturdays. But specific days are arranged to suit your calendar.

What else do I need to know?

  • This is a new role with lots of scope to develop it further.
  • We're looking for an outgoing, independent and organised person who is looking to become part of a friendly and supportive team.
  • You should be comfortable meeting new people and making them feel welcome, have a genuine interest in others, and enjoy playing a supportive/mentoring role for our team of volunteers.

Background checks

  • No background checks are required
