Age: Volunteers should be 16 years old and above+

What will I be doing?

  • Basic gardening including weeding, pruning, building log piles and planting with Parks Service and Friends of Caledonian Park
  • Keeping the park tidy and collecting litter
  • Reporting park issues to the Cally Clock Tower team e.g. broken equipment, park security, vandalism or cleaning
  • Welcoming and helping people to find and use Caledonian Park services

What impact will this have?

  • Assist the Friends of Cally Park and the Islington Parks team with basic gardening and maintenance tasks
  • Together we keep Cally Park looking great
  • Help create a community space for everyone to enjoy

Commitment

  • Our community gardening sessions take place monthly, on the first Wednesday of each month (the exception being January 2020. The first session takes place on 8 January, not 1 January due to the Bank Holiday)
  • Each session starts at 10am and finishes by 1pm

  • We offer a welcoming and enjoyable volunteering experience

  • All volunteers have a chance to share ideas and suggestions
  • All volunteers are covered by Islington Council’s Insurance and Health and Safety policies.

Training

  • No previous experience of gardening is required and you will be guided on what to do by a member of Islington Parks team
  • All volunteers receive an induction
  • Training on how to safely use the gardening tools is given at the start of each session
