What will I be doing?

  • Our flexible creative befriending service includes a range of support for people aged 50 and over, including: (i) Social Support; helping people visit local museums, galleries & events (ii) Digital Support; helping people improve their basic digital-skills (iii) Creative support; helping people explore the creative arts (iv) Digital storytelling; helping people explore photography and film (v) Dementia Support; helping people recently diagnosed with dementia
  • Delivering regular one-to-one creative befriending sessions in peoples homes and/or local community spaces
  • Providing basic information, advice and creative encouragement to people aged 50+ who may feel lonely and be socially isolated
  • Helping people aged 50+ access other local support services helping improve their physical and mental health
  • Completing project evaluation forms to help us understand the impact of our creative befriending service
  • Depending on the type of support being provided; using a smartphone to document creative sessions through photography and/or film

Commitment

  • We would expect volunteer creative befrienders to be able to commit at least two hours a week, for approximately six months

What else do I need to know?

  • This flexible role may be of particular interest to students or recent graduates of film, photography, or the creative arts who would like to share their creative skills with older people
  • Previous experience supporting vulnerable adults and/or older people is desirable but not essential
