What will I be doing?

  • Meet and greet and direct clients and external agencies visiting the premises
  • Keep records of all visitors to the premises
  • Maintain security to the premises

What impact will this have?

  • The volunteer will help us running the night shelter efficiently
  • An opportunity to support homeless people who sleep rough
  • An opportunity to help homeless people who may speak very little English

Commitment

  • - Regular volunteering would be preferable e.g. 1 day a week
  • - 12 p.m - 4 p.m.
    - 5 p.m. - 9 p.m.

What else do I need to know?

  • In order to address the increase in EEA Nationals rough sleeping, the Government, after consultation with charities and local authorities in the affected areas, are piloting a temporary change of legislation, which extend powers for local authorities to provide emergency shelter and support for EEA nationals to access to employment, accommodation and re-connection.

    Chalk Farm Cold Weather Shelter will provide emergency shelter and support to EEA Nationals who are referred by Local Outreach Services from the following North London Boroughs - Barnet, Enfield, Camden, Haringey and Islington.

    The aim of the service is to support the clients to access Employment and Long Term Accommodation. Staff will also support clients to address their individual needs, examples of support provided include:

    • Support with sourcing ID
    • Signposting and supporting with immigration issues (Pre and settled status)
    • Identifying suitable and affordable move on accommodation
    • Accessing primary & secondary Healthcare services
    • Support to access Training / Educational Opportunities that directly improve employment prospects

Expenses

  • Volunteers are welcome to sit and eat with clients at mealtime.

  • Other background checks are required
