What will I be doing?

  • Oversee the financial affairs of the organisation and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice
  • Ensure proper financial records are kept. Ensure compliance with charity law and all other legal and tax requirements
  • Ensure effective financial procedures are in place. Act as the lead trustee compiling the annual budget; monitor performance monthly against budget and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation
  • Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits
  • As a member of the Council of Management:
    o Help develop the forward plan with a clear vision and strategic direction.
    o Set aims, objectives and plans to implement the strategy.
    o Ensure that the organisation pursues its charitable objectives as set out in the Museum’s Constitution and uses its resources exclusively in pursuant of these objects.

Commitment

  • It is anticipated that the role will take approx. 25 hours per month.

What else do I need to know?

  • We strongly welcome applications from volunteers of all backgrounds to take part in our work of sharing London’s canal heritage with the public.
  • Our museum galleries are accessible to those with limited mobility and users of wheelchairs, and we are very happy to make all reasonable adjustments to ensure that someone can volunteer with us.

Expenses

  • We are happy to reimburse the following (receipts must be provided):

    - All volunteers who volunteer for 4 or more hours on site over the lunchtime period (11am-2pm) can claim up to £3.50 in food expenses
    - Travel to and from the museum
