What will I be doing?

  • Work with other volunteers to deliver a session.
  • Welcome in new customers, helping them get settled, introducing them to others, finding out what they enjoy.
  • Learning new games, or suggesting some of your favourites, and teaching others.
  • Welcome and chat with our attendees and assisting with refreshments.
  • Registering attendees and talking any small fees chargeable for attendance.
  • Reporting to the Community Engagement department about any issues or concerns. Also giving feedback about positive changes observed in new customers, or feel good stories.

What impact will this have?

  • You will be reducing loneliness for our service users who are older adults who may be suffering from isolation.
  • Our activities and your support help to encourage people to socialise and relax together.
  • You will meet interesting people, have plenty of fun and make a positive difference in your community!

Commitment

  • From Active Exercise, to I.T., to languages and culture, our volunteers add skill, excitement and passion to the varied Activities programme.
  • Wimbledon Guild is a safe, welcoming environment for older adults who might be suffering from isolation and loneliness, and our activities encourage people to socialise and relax together.

What else do I need to know?

  • Our volunteers don't need any particular qualifications or experience, just a passion for helping others. Any skills or interests you have may be useful so please let us know when you apply.
  • Flexibility, patience, and the ability to work in a team are essential, as are having a sense of humour and lots of enthusiasm!

Training

  • You will be part of Wimbledon Guild’s volunteer team helping to improve older people’s lives in Merton. You will normally volunteer alongside one or two other volunteers.
  • All training will be provided through the Volunteer Programme.
  • You will have the full support of the Wimbledon Guild staff team and we will always check with you to see how things are going.
