What will I be doing?

  • As a Thrive Support group Volunteer, you might be able to help a Thrive service user to regain personal control and build the confidence and emotional strength to enable them to rebuild their life. It all starts with a listening ear and a robust support network.
  • This role covers London, Thames Valley & Hampshire areas. The actual working area supported by a group depends on Service User's & volunteers' respective location
  • You will meet as a group regularly; the suggestion is that the group will initially meet once a week, for about an hour at a mutually convenient time. The number of meetings reduces over time. The needs and wishes of the Thrive Support Group’s user will shape the direction of the group. Our hope is that with the help of the group, the service user will regain personal control and build the confidence to restore their lives and perhaps give them more strength to access further help & restorative interventions.

What impact will this have?

  • Our hope is that with the help of the group, the service user will regain personal control and build the confidence to restore their lives and perhaps give them more strength to access further help & restorative interventions.
  • While these meetings aren’t necessary self- help groups, we hope a number of survivors of sexual abuse may come forward to volunteer for the service. We believe those who might feel able to share their own stories and especially their coping strategies, can contribute greatly to improving the service user’s wellbeing.
  • The purpose of this group is to offer emotional support in order to help the service user to regain their self-reliance, self-belief and reduce isolation & loneliness.

Commitment

  • A Thrive Support Group is a group of 3 or 4 trained volunteers allocated to a survivor of sexual violence (Service User). The purpose of this group is to offer emotional support that helps the Service User regain their self-reliance & self-belief, and reduces their isolation & loneliness.
  • Whilst these meetings are not necessarily self-help groups, we hope a number of survivors of sexual abuse may come forward to volunteer for the service. We believe those who might feel able to share their own stories (and especially their coping strategies) can contribute greatly to improving the service user’s well-being.

What else do I need to know?

  • Being a volunteer can be extremely rewarding. Apart from your travelling expenses paid and the benefit of access to unique training, you can improve someone's life just by being yourself and spending some time with other people.
This can give them hope of a better future.
  • Circles South East is committed to equal opportunities and diversity. This commitment extends to Staff, Volunteers and Clients. We welcome everyone from our community.
