What will I be doing?

  • The Challenge Hub is a not-for-profit start-up but has a professionally developed marketing plan, branding platform and social media strategy. We understand the social context of what we offer and have a provisional understanding of our primary audience.
  • We are looking for a volunteer to work with The Challenge Hub team (we are all volunteers with different skill-sets) to build our membership and enlarge our profile. To do this we now need a volunteer specialist in use of social media who can offer time and creativity to build an effective social media campaign.
  • A professional volunteer has previously produced "Brand and Content Strategy" and "Social Media Planning Guidelines" in which we have confidence. They provide the basis for our social media campaign and we now need a volunteer to put them into action, offering creative solutions and driving content.
  • To be effective, we believe that the volunteer will need to relate to the social objectives of The Challenge Hub and be creative, self motivated and energetic. A former Marketing Director of Puma sits on our Advisory Board and would be available for advice but otherwise the volunteer would be lead on this (albeit with support from the team) and so initiative is essential.
  • The Challenge Hub is endorsed by Public Health England and by College of Medicine. Activity Alliance (formerly The English Federation for Disability Sport) has a representative on our Advisory Board. We have received support from Royal Voluntary Service and others. For a young initiative (beta-phase testing ended in January) we have made great progress - but the time has now come to promote and build our membership and brand.

What impact will this have?

  • As part of a volunteer group but with sole Social Media expertise (although a former Marketing Director of Puma sits on our Advisory Board) you would be playing an essential role in the next stage of development for The Challenge Hub.
  • The Challenge Hub is based on a simple but versatile idea which seeks to address many well-researched social issues such as the difficulties of life transition from the workplace / motivation of older people as a volunteer resource / fulfilling lives leading to less demand on social services and the NHS / building of community around shared challenges / intergenerational initiatives.
  • The Challenge Hub - and particularly the idea of "DofE for the over 55s" - has no equivalent which accounts for the voluntary sector support which it is receiving. A lot of consultation has gone into how to present The Challenge Hub and the website seeks to reflect that. Beta-phase testing used a 3-figure number of Members and resulted in useful improvements.
  • We now need to do justice to the concept and to the support which we are receiving so as to communicate our messages, to build our brand and to build our membership. At this stage in our development a highly effective and systematic Social Media campaign is vital and you would therefore be playing a central part in our future.

Commitment

  • There are no fixed hours or location. We would hope for a time contribution of 2 to 3 hours per week in order to develop the social media campaign.
  • No face-to-face meetings are required and so the role would be performed purely remotely by WhatsApp etc.. So saying, occasionally available members of the Advisory Board / volunteers have chosen to come together for a coffee in Central London but this is not systematic or necessary.

Expenses

  • We do not reimburse volunteer expenses for this role

Background checks

  • No background checks are required
