What will I be doing?

  • As a Side by Side volunteer, You will share your passion with someone with dementia.
  • Together you can do anything from playing your favourite musical instrument to taking a walk in their local park, or simply have a cup of tea and chat.
  • By volunteering for one of our services you can help provide vital support, reduce isolation and increase the wellbeing of people affected by dementia.

What impact will this have?

  • You will be joining the Alzheimer's Society service called Side by Side, which aims to help people with dementia to continue to do the things they love, with the support of a volunteer.
  • Volunteer with one of our services and provide vital support for people affected by dementia.
  • By volunteering for one of our services you can help provide vital support, reduce isolation and increase the well-being of people affected by dementia.

Commitment

  • Commitment to a regular meeting agreed with your match (usually weekly or fortnightly)
  • Commit to checking in and out with a designated person to ensure the safety of you and the person you are matched with.

Expenses

  • Travel expenses and out of pocket expenses up to £10 for any paid activity during your visits (eg entry to museums, refreshments in cafes). Check with Side by Side Coordinator for full details

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • Training will be provided both face-to-face and online, as well as an induction process
  • There will be ongoing supervision to support you in your volunteering role and planned expenses will be reimbursed.
