What will I be doing?

  • Our mission is maintain, enhance and safeguard the Park's landscape as well as encouraging community participation in the Park 's conservation through volunteering and environmental education programmes, such as the River Ranger Project.
  • The River Ranger programme is looking for volunteers -who are interested in learning and conserving the rivers network and wildlife across the Colne Valley Regional Park.
  • Volunteers play a key role in monitoring and reporting on small stretches of river across the Colne Valley Regional Park. Possible activities include:
  • Surveying of non -native invasive species which damage local ecosystems such as Floating Pennywort and the opportunity to remove the species via practical conservation to help prevent further spread.
  • River walks and monitoring water quality to help identify issues such as pollution incidents earlier enabling quick action.
  • Litter pick walks, community engagement and public events.

What impact will this have?

  • Volunteers will practically conserve the rivers, park's and open spaces found in Hillingdon and Colne Valley Regional Park.
  • Volunteer will monitor wildlife and riverbank features provides vital information which adds to our local knowledge helping understand trend and changes.
  • Monitoring water quality through riverfly training, providing important information to help improve river decision making at a local level.
  • Volunteer will learn who to correctly identify, survey and report non native invasive species focusing on Himalayan Balsam and Floating Pennywort to help quick action to control spread of species.
  • Reporting pollution incidents to ensuring a quick response vital for river health.

Commitment

  • You can choose how much time you volunteer, whether is it every month completing water wuality montioring or once a year at a practical conservation day.

What else do I need to know?

  • River Rangers will also have an opportunity to attend river focused workshops to learn about your local river system as well as attending volunteer social events.

Expenses

  • Volunteer expenses: we can reimburse expenses until our fund runs out!
