What will I be doing?

  • Lead a weekly Shared Reading group in a kind and inclusive way
  • Choose and prepare great literature that will encourage group members to explore together and make personal connections
  • Talk to potential group members in the community to invite and build your group membership
  • Liaise with staff at the venue to ensure smooth running of the group
  • Submit weekly records of group attendance and carry out occasional evaluation when required

  • Volunteers bring people together and books to life by leading weekly Shared Reading groups where great literature is read aloud allowing space for group members to make meaningful connections with themselves and others through listening, reading and discussing.

Commitment

  • This volunteer role averages 4 hours a week. 2 hours dedicated to leading a weekly Shared Reading group and 2 hours for weekly reading prep and records.

  • This role is ongoing with a minimum commitment of 6 months.

Training

  • All volunteers start their Reader Leaders journeys by completing our innovative flagship training course, Read to Lead, taking place over three days
  • Volunteers receive ongoing support through regular Volunteer Support Meetings, 1:1 Shared Reflections with the local Hub Leader, and access to our online Membership website
  • The next Read to Lead training course will take place in January 2020 and will be three full days, 9:30-4:30 each day. We are currently taking bookings for this training.
