What will I be doing?

  • At Touchpoint Service we want to help people to grow their independence and confidence to tackle the barriers they are facing, so we will always aim to do things with you as well as support you to do things yourself.
  • We will give you induction training, with information about the role of a Disability Led organisation, what is safeguarding, why we have set this project up.
    we will give you ongoing training, advice and support to carry out the role.
  • We require a minimum of 6 months commitment to 1-1 mentor role.
    We are looking for volunteer mentors with good people skills to support people with disabilities and/or long term health conditions improve their wellbeing and reduce isolation using your valuable personal and/or professional skills

What impact will this have?

  • Through our Mentoring programme we want to make the following difference: - Decrease Social Isolation -increase knowledge and skills base of what people with Disabilities face on a daily basis -
  • We want our Mentors to work in partnership with their mentee to: -understand their situation better including the goals they would like to achieve -understand what services and/or resources is needed to access to achieve these goals -think together about the barriers you are currently facing to accessing those services and/or resources
  • The Touchpoint Service is about helping people to grow their independence and confidence to tackle the barriers they are facing,. Our Volunteer Mentors will aim to work with and build independence skills and abilities for the person that they are mentoring.
  • we also value our mentors and meet with them monthly to build their skills set, abilities and knowledge about disability and health conditions and how they affect every day life.

Commitment

    Inclusion Barnet is a charity run by disabled people, including people with mental health issues and long term conditions.
    Do you have good communication and listening skills, empathetic personality, and a good sense of humour?
    Can you commit to at least 2 hours per week, for a minimum of 6 months?

  • Each volunteer mentor will have a comprehensive induction training that will include:

    Safeguarding
    Lone working
    Expenses

  • Ongoing Training to include:
    - What is an Action Plan and how to use the Touchpoint Action Plan
    - Building Mentoring and befriending skills and abilities
    - Positives and negatives
  • We also offer
    monthly 1-1 catch up meetings
    6 weekly Group Supervision meeting to share ideas, positives and team building
