Location: Camberwell Salvation Army , 105 Lomond Grove , Camberwell , London , SE5 7HG (see map)

Travel: Denmark Hill station. Medlar Street bus stop.

Start date: 11/11/2019 (ongoing)

What will I be doing?

  • Engaging children(0-5) in fun and stimulating play, including singing, storytime, cooking and drawing etc.
  • Assisting in group cooking activities: our cooking sessions will be led by parents, however, we need volunteers to encourage everyone’s involvement and help parents to engage their children.
  • Building relationships with parents: At the end of the Family Food Club everyone sits down to eat together, volunteers are encouraged to take time to enjoy the meal with all of the participants.
  • We would encourage you to get to know the parents that attend and to have informal conversations with them. Many of the pregnant women or mothers that come to PACT are isolated and without a network of support and we aim to fill this gap.
  • Working as a team

Family Food Club

What impact will this have?

  • Volunteers help the Family Food Club to run smoothly. They support children to have a fun and enjoyable experience and give parents space to fully participate in the activities so they can learn, share and develop skills inside the kitchen and beyond
  • Volunteers play an integral role in supporting families to overcome barriers to healthy eating and create a positive non-judgemental community where parents can learn, share and develop skills inside the kitchen and beyond.
  • Volunteers help to promote social integration, combating isolation, improving the wellbeing of the parents that attend our groups and breaking down the barriers to healthy eating.
  • Through building positive relationships within our community, volunteers directly help to empower parents and improve the health and development outcomes for young children in the area.
  • By providing a reliable human connection, volunteers help to engage several hard-to-reach communities who don't normally access health and social services in Southwark.
