What will I be doing?

  • We need volunteers to support our [email protected] Mumspace group, which welcomes parents into a community where they can share the ups and downs of parenthood. Volunteers play an integral role in caring for babies and supporting isolated parents.
  • The role involves helping to set up toys, preparing drinks and snacks, serving tea/coffee, joining in with singing and other group activities during circle time. We would also encourage you to get to know the parents that attend and to have informal conversations with them. Many of the parents that come to our groups are isolated and without a network of support and we aim to fill this gap.
  • While parents are participating in the workshops for half an hour you would help to oversee and run activities with the babies/toddlers attending. You will be encouraging the children to engage in stimulating play and the planned activities.
  • There are opportunities to meet new people and join our wonderful team of volunteers, gain experience in the realms of health and social care and an opportunity to offer your own skills to support the wider community.

What impact will this have?

  • Volunteers play an integral role in promoting social integration, combating isolation and improving the well being of the parents that attend our groups.
  • Through building positive relationships within our community, volunteers directly help to empower parents and improve the health and development outcomes for young children in the area.
  • By providing a reliable human connection, volunteers help to engage a number of hard-to-reach communities who don't normally access health and social services in Southwark.
