What will I be doing?

  • • empowering participants to make choices regarding art and creative activities and listening to their feedback;
  • • supporting participants as they engage in arts and creative activities which are run by professional artists;
  • • engaging participants in additional activities, such as gardening;
  • • meeting, greeting and welcoming people as they arrive;
  • • helping participants socialise by befriending
  • • helping people to their transport;

What impact will this have?

  • Reducing social isolation amongst older people.
  • Helping to create a non-judgemental and open space for people to make art and learn new skills.
  • Create more opportunities for older people people to express themselves and connect to other people.
  • Improved well-being and community connectedness.

Commitment

  • Meet Me at the Albany takes place between 9.30am and 3pm every Tuesday.
  • Ideally we would ask volunteers to commit to minimum of 6 months volunteering. Attending at least two sessions a month. But we are happy to discuss other options if this would be difficult for you.

What else do I need to know?

  • We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds who:
    • are friendly and willing to talk to anyone and everyone;
    • are sensitive in dealing with people from a range of different backgrounds, with a range of different (health) needs;
    • have excellent communication skills;
    • take an interest in the arts and in supporting people to be creative;
    • are great at working in a team;
    • are proactive and flexible.
  • Skills or experience in the following areas would be an advantage, although not essential:
    • Occupational Therapy and/or adult social care;
    • gardening and/or running community gardening activities;
    • facilitating (arts) sessions, or a desire to develop skills in this area;

Expenses

  • Up to £5 travel expenses. All volunteers get a free lunch whilst volunteering at Meet Me at the Albany.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • We will provide an induction for new volunteers. The induction will cover health and safety procedures, safeguarding and roles and responsibilities.
  • Volunteers will have the opportunity to access a monthly rolling programme of training covering: boundaries, Conversations in death dying and loss, manual handling, dementia training and creative training sessions.
