Location: Walworth Garden, 206 Manor Place, London, SE17 3BN (see map)

Travel: Kennington station. St Paul's Primary School bus stop.

Start date: 09/09/2019 (ongoing)

What will I be doing?

  • The volunteer will be supporting a participant of our Future Gardeners Level 2 City and Guilds course to be able to complete the reading and writing elements of the course.
  • The volunteer will read text to the participant and act as a 'scribe'.
  • The volunteer will help the participant with understanding the subject content of the course.

What impact will this have?

  • The participant the volunteer will be supporting has been volunteering with our charity as a gardener for many years. They are a keen and enthusiastic individual and are very able at gardening tasks and have the practical ability to successfully complete the Future Gardeners course.
  • The participant does however find reading and writing a challenge and requires the support of a committed, caring volunteer to enable them to complete these elements of the course.
  • The successful volunteer will enable our participant to access and complete the Future Gardeners City and Guilds Level Two course. This course has a 75% success rate in getting people into employment in the Horticulture industry and along with their volunteering experience our participant would have a high chance of gaining employment following graduation from the course.
