What will I be doing?

  • Volunteers work as a team with our sessional worker to manage the event and liaise with the venue reception. Volunteers should also focus on making sure all members enjoy the event and when necessary are gently encouraged to socialise with other members. Volunteers are required to attend any relevant training and two volunteer forums annually
  • You will ideally be sociable people who are able to encourage good group dynamics and be mindful of the social needs of sometimes vulnerable individual members
  • Meeting and greeting members. Especially welcoming new members, introducing them to other people and ensuring they feel welcome and helping them to integrate. Sitting with the members and being part of the group, joining the conversation and ensuring new members feel comfortable. Informing members about the venue and any plans to develop the event.
  • Communicating with staff at the venue and keeping our relationship with the venue good and mutually beneficial. Helping clear away at the end of the event.  Help to sign in members, provide information about ODL activities, sign up new members when necessary Promoting the group locally, either directly or via members

What impact will this have?

  • Opening Doors London is the biggest charity providing support services for LGBTQ people in the UK. Established in 2008 ODL now operates across all of London. We operate a large volunteer service, and our mission is to combat and overcome loneliness and isolation for older LGBTQ people in London.
