What will I be doing?

  • To mentor young carers aged 8 -18 years who may be struggling either at home, school or in their lives
  • Work with young carers to develop their confidence, life skills, self esteem and opportunities This role has had a positive impact on many young carers lives.
  • Provide one to one emotional and practical support Build young carers resilience to manage their emotions
  • Provide a space to explore issues with young carers and help them to cope with transition phase

What impact will this have?

  • Family Action is a charity committed to building stronger families by delivering innovative and effective services and support that reaches out to many of the UKs most vulnerable people. Young Carers are particularly vulnerable young people who face isolation from peers, educational difficulties, emotional and anxiety issues and lack of time to engage in fun and social community activities
  • Support families where there is a young carer aged 8-18 years old. We provide a culturally sensitive service and aim to increase the confidence and self esteem of parents and Young Carers.
  • One to one practical and emotional support to Young Carers Promote Young Carers issues to help them to develop confidence, build resilience and raise aspirations Volunteer Mentoring sessions for Young Carers on a bi monthly or monthly basis Full training, support and supervision is provided to Volunteer Mentors

Commitment

  • We are looking for motivated volunteer mentors to deliver 1:1 activity / mentoring sessions with young carers for a commitment of 6 months with the capacity to volunteer for at least 4 -6 hours a month at week ends.

Expenses

  • Activities and Travel are reimbursed against receipts.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • Full days interactive training is provided to equip volunteer around mentoring a young carer for up to 6 months.
  • We do require that once training is provided and volunteer wishes to commence mentoring a young carer, that they have the capacity to be fully committed to this role for 6 months.
