  • We provide independent information, support and advocacy as well as wellbeing and respite activities.
  • Our model of support aims to meet the five outcomes of the National Carers' Strategy. Carers will be…. Not financially disadvantaged. Mentally and physically well; treated with dignity. Recognised and supported as an expert care partner. Enjoying a life outside caring. Children will be thriving, protected from inappropriate caring roles.
  • KCN aims to ensure that carers:. Enjoy good physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Are recognised and respected as expert care partners. Are given information about services and support available to carers. Are listened to and supported by providing a ‘listening ear’. Have a life outside of caring through engaging in activities, outings and social events. Are well-informed and know about their rights, benefits and allowances. Have support to access benefits and allowances. Can access training and information to meet their caring needs. Receive regular support through groups and drop-ins. Get equal access to services. Are encouraged to recognise their own needs and to get their status acknowledged. Are kept informed of national and local policies that affect carers. Are consulted and have input to service planning and delivery.

How we deliver these aims

We are the only organisation in the borough with a team dedicated to supporting the needs of young carers (aged 5-18) and as such have a wealth of experience and expertise in issues which affect their lives. We provide: information and advice, including 1-to-1 support opportunities to meet other young carers fun activities, outings and breaks away from home regular drop ins awareness raising of the needs of young carers, particularly in schools advocacy and whole family support quarterly newsletter

Who benefits from our work

Carers who, without payment, provide help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.
