What will I be doing?

  • Assist the Activities Lead to support children with complex medical needs and special educational needs (and their siblings) at our regular and one -off activities for children in the borough of Greenwich
  • Assist children to participate in various sports, games and activities
  • Work with children 1:1 or in small groups depending on the needs of individual children
  • Help set up and clear away at the beginning and end of the sessions
  • Participate in a briefing and de-briefing session before and after the club to help evaluate the session and support the children attending more effectively
  • Follow The Maypole Project policies and guidelines at all times whilst volunteering

What impact will this have?

  • Help us provide a lifeline of support for children with complex and life threatening illnesses and their whole family.
  • Support children with complex medical needs to participate in activities they otherwise might not be able to participate in
  • Support children with complex medical needs to engage is social activities

Commitment

  • Most of our activities take place in the early evening midweek (Tues, Wed or Thurs). Holiday Activities take place on various days/times throughout the week.

What else do I need to know?

  • We currently run drumming workshops and soft play sessions regularly in Greenwich. In addition to this we have holiday activities available in the school holidays
  • Activities take place across the borough but mainly Greenwich and Eltham

Expenses

  • We will cover reasonable travel expenses with prior arrangement and on presentation of receipts.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • Half day training is provided at the start of the volunteer role
  • Monthly supervision sessions are available
  • Further training is offered where necessary
