Hospital Radio Barnet

People and communities

Organisation aims / mission / values

  • To visit patients in the wards of the hospital for a friendly chat to make them feel less anxious about their stay in hospital, and to take requests for their choice of music to be broadcast on Hospital Radio Barnet.
  • To help raise funds for the radio station by taking part in various local projects that the station is involved in.
  • If desired, a chance to host your own radio show on Hospital Radio Barnet (don't worry - training will be available).

How we deliver these aims

In 2018 the ‘Big 40’ arrived at Hospital Radio Barnet. Started back in November 1978, the dedicated volunteers at the radio station are still very busy broadcasting to the patients of Barnet Hospital, bringing a huge variety of entertaining programmes and a warm friendly voice to help ease the worry and stress that’s often present when we go in to hospital. For 2020 the station would love to continue their wonderful service but to do this they need more volunteers. Could this be you? How much involvement is up to you…. chatting to the patients in the wards, taking music requests for broadcasting over the radio, helping to raise funds for the station with all sorts of projects or even running your own radio programme. You never know, being a ‘friend by the bedside’ could be one of the most rewarding things you’ve done this year. You can contact us by email for more details - [email protected]
