What will I be doing?

  • You'd be offering emotional and practical support over the phone to children, young people and adults who are affected by 'missing'.
  • This could include the loved ones of a missing person, someone thinking of leaving home, or someone who is missing.
  • You'll also be updating our database with case actions and records.

Commitment

  • This would be a weekly commitment of one shift per week at either 10:00 - 14:00, 14:00 - 18:00 or 18:00 - 22:00, Monday to Sunday depending on your availability
  • We ideally need volunteers to commit to this role for at least 12 months

Expenses

  • We reimburse volunteers up to £15 a day for travel expenses.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • We ask for volunteers to commit to all of the training sessions in order to carry out the role (training dates will be sent to you after you've applied)
  • You'll be asked to commit to 1 training session a week for 7 weeks which covers a range of topics including Helpline Skills, Identifying Risk & Talking About It and Supporting Families, Children & Young People and Vulnerable Adults to name a few.

  • As part of the training, you'll also get the opportunity to listen-in to live calls being taken by our Helpline team as well as an induction shift where you'll provide support to people over the phone with 1:1 support from a Helpline Supervisor.
