What will I be doing?

  • Answer calls that come through to National helpline
  • Provide support, information and potentially signpost to relevant support services
  • Fill in detailed call log after each call
  • Attend mandatory supervision meeting every month

What impact will this have?

  • Providing invaluable support to parents/carers whose children have been sexually abused.
  • The volunteer will attend an 8 week training programme and gain new skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Being part of a friendly, supportive team delivering life changing services.

Commitment

  • We are looking for volunteers to commit to 4 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months.

What else do I need to know?

  • No previous helpline experience necessary.
  • If a survivor of child sexual abuse- to have worked through personal healing process.

Expenses

  • Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • All volunteers will attend an 8 week training programme which will cover topics such as:
    - Introduction to Mosac and child sexual abuse (CSA)
    - Understanding child sex offending behaviour and the impact it has on children
    - Recognising signs and symptoms of CSA
    - Impact of CSA on parents and importance of support services
    - Developing active listening skills
    - Increasing self awareness
    - Practising helpline skills
    - Professional boundaries
    - Self care
  • There will be a shadowing period where the volunteer will shadow the Helpline Manager until they feel ready to take a call.
  • Ongoing support, training and supervision will also be provided.
