Organisation aims / mission / values

  • Girls Friendly Society provides opportunities for girls and young women to develop their self-esteem, confidence, emotional wellbeing and resilience.
  • GFS groups provide a fun and supportive place for girls and young women aged 5-14 to develop the skills they need to reach their potential.
  • Informed by the issues girls and young women face today, our activities are designed to develop confidence, self-esteem and resilience – and above all, be fun. For many, the group provides stability and an opportunity to develop their understanding of the importance of supporting and accepting one another.

How we deliver these aims

Our groups meet weekly for around an hour and a half. A typical session will start with check-in or circle time where girls discuss their week and any plans for future sessions, followed by one or two activities selected from our six themes, and end with a reflection. Topics cover issues such as friendships and healthy relationships, body confidence and female role models. We also support discussions of issues affecting girls and young women such as discrimination, lack of equality in the workplace and everyday sexism.
