What will I be doing?

  • • Welcome visitors to ensure they have an enjoyable time at the gallery.

  • • Develop the day-to-day experience of working in a gallery/exhibition space.
  • • Learn more about exhibitions, with the chance to meet the curators / Gallery Director.
  • • Interact with visitor/community groups.
  • • Gain experience in looking after the gallery shop.
  • • Learn about caring for archival objects in an exhibition context and conduct safety/condition checks of artworks.

What impact will this have?

  • • The support of our volunteers is essential to the day-to-day operation of the gallery
  • • Our volunteers serve as a friendly first point of contact for our visitors and ensure that people have an enjoyable experience
  • • Our volunteers help us to maintain strong links to the local community

Commitment

  • We ask that volunteers are able to commit to one shift a week (10am-5pm with an hour for lunch) during the exhibition period. Depending on scheduling, it may be possible to undertake fewer shifts.
  • Volunteers are also invited to get involved with our events programme. This will primarily involve working private views, Thursday lates and workshop activities. Dates and times will be communicated in advance.

Expenses

  • We are able to reimburse up to £5 per day for food and an additional £5 per day for travel, as long as volunteers submit proof of purchase/receipts.
