Organisation aims / mission / values

The Friends of Brompton Cemetery work to preserve Brompton Cemetery as a model of an historic cemetery with an active role in modern society.
The 39 acre (16 hectare) Grade 1 listed cemetery, located in the heart of London, is one of Britain’s oldest and most distinguished garden cemeteries. Through volunteering, publications and events, the Friends welcome visitors and conduct regular guided tours, assist with conservation and gardening activities, and promote the appreciation and use of the Cemetery.
We help to restore and maintain the cemetery’s buildings, monuments and landscape, and encourage their full use by those sympathetic to the importance, beauty, heritage and fragility of this significant cemetery.
We manage an information centre, and offer visitors Sunday afternoon guided tours, group tours at any convenient time in the week, and a varied programme of events and activities.

How we deliver these aims

Who benefits from our work

All visitors to the Cemetery benefit from our activities, whether they are there to visit family graves, to enjoy the green space that the gardens offer, to pass through on their commute, to enjoy concerts and exhibitions, or to learn about the history with tours and lectures. Local residents treasure the refurbishment of this valuable space.
