What will I be doing?

  • Our Family Support volunteers provide practical support with signposting to families with blind and partially sighted children and young people.
  • Help families to find the health and education support that is right for them.
  • Signpost to relevant services or organisations.
  • Support families by telephone or on occasion in person.

What impact will this have?

  • You can make a real difference to the lives of families and children with vision impairment whilst learning and gaining a realistic understanding of the realities of families with disabled children.
  • Providing practical support to the whole family when there is a child with sight loss.
  • Finding information about where to find local help and advice, education or financial support.

Commitment

  • Ideally one day a week, but we can discuss alternative proposals - this is very flexible role.
  • You will be working from your home.

  • We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting families and children with a vision impairment. Are you the one to join us?

Expenses

  • Travel costs up to £10.00 per day if incurred while volunteering.

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • Training for you to understand the impact of living with vision impairment.
  • Training on the most important benefits and forms and an introduction to EHSC plans (Education, Health and Social Care) and why they are vital.
  • Safeguarding training and ongoing support through your line manager.
