Location: Brompton Cemetery, Old Brompton Road, London, SW5 9JE (see map)

Travel: West Brompton Station bus stop.

Start date: Ongoing

What will I be doing?

  • The Friends of Brompton Cemetery arrange a full calendar of events throughout the year, including tours, concerts, art exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and so on. And there is scope to expand this even further.
  • We need someone to manage the online calendar system, to ensure that events are correctly booked into the appropriate rooms/facilities, and to ensure the necessary equipment is arranged as required.
  • You will communicate the planned events to the Website manager, the Social Media Coordinator, the Newsletter editor, and to the Volunteer coordinator to ensure events are publicised appropriately.
  • You will also plan the year's regular and special tours and will organise the Volunteers Socials which happen 2-3 times per year.
  • We hope you will have lots of initiative and will be able to suggest many more events for the Cemetery! You will be part of a team that includes the Chapel Coordinator (who organises events in the Chapel) and the Volunteer Coordinator (who manages the Information Centre at North Lodge).
  • If you are happy using Social Media, you can contribute to our Facebook/Instagram/Twitter feeds with details of the events.

What impact will this have?

  • You will make a big difference developing the program of events offered at Brompton Cemetery.
  • You will be a key contact for other volunteers, for the Royal Parks staff and for the public about everything that is going on in the Cemetery.
  • You will ensure that the wonderful events that are organised are promoted appropriately and you will increase the public awareness of Brompton Cemetery.

Commitment

  • This role can be done at times and days that suit the applicant. Since this is a new role, it is difficult to predict the hours, but it will require some time every week. There will be cover available for holidays. We are looking for someone who can commit to at least 1 year of volunteering.
  • There will be some meetings at Brompton Cemetery, otherwise the role can be done from home. Access to a computer and competent computer skills are required.

What else do I need to know?

  • We can provide you with details of all the wonderful events we have organised in the past.
  • You should feel competent working with computers, though full training and support will be given.
  • This role is new, so there is plenty of scope to shape it into something that suits you.
