What will I be doing?

  • Accompanying an OETC facilitator to Drama and Creative Writing Taster Sessions at Drug and Alcohol Treatment Facilities to model and engage in all the workshop activities enthusiastically.

    ·
  • Support in the delivery of drama and writing exercises.
  • Sharing your personal Outside Edge journey with workshop participants, encouraging them to come along and try the drop in workshops whilst answering any questions they may have about the Outside Edge.
  • Attending Drop-In Drama workshops on a frequent basis. Being a friendly face to newcomers by offering them tea/coffee and introducing them to others in the group to make them feel welcome.

What impact will this have?

  • Helping to demonstrate how drama can improve wellbeing and build recovery capital.
  • Supporting people to engage with creative activities to aid their recovery maintenance.
  • Welcoming newcomers to Drop-In Drama sessions, to reduce loneliness and encourage socially isolated people affected by addiction to engage with Outside Edge's services.

  • This volunteer opportunity is only open to Outside Edge's current Service User population.
  • Outside Edge Theatre Company is the UK’s only theatre company and participatory arts charity focused on substance misuse and addiction. For almost twenty years OETC has toured cutting edge theatre productions and offered free drama workshops to help people support their recovery maintenance.

Founded in 1999 by Phil Fox, who was an actor and recovering heroin addict, the work of the company builds from Phil’s own experience of theatre leading from addiction to recovery. The company continues to work from the premise that engaging in performance and exploring issues through drama has the ability to bring about positive change in the lives of people affected by addiction. We support people affected by substance misuse to reach and recognise their potential, find an identity and build skills and confidence in order to support recovery at all stages.
