What will I be doing?

  • We are looking for confident drivers, and those can can follow maps easily. Most of the deliveries of food will be going to households on the Woodberry Down estate in North London. But there are a few other areas such as Stoke Newington who we deliver too.
  • You will be meeting some of these households who are receiving food deliveries. So this role would be suited to someone who can talk to people easily. Some of these households are facing many hardships, so we are after volunteers who are good at listening as well.
  • We need volunteers who can commit to these Monday evening shifts, as it's visual that these deliveries go out on time every Monday.
  • You will be working with other volunteers who have been sorting the shopping bags out prior to them being delivered. So we are after volunteers who can work well within a group.

What impact will this have?

  • Many of these residents experience hardships on a daily basis, which has been amplified by the COVID-19 epidemic. They need are support more than ever through these uncertain times. .
  • These households are usually from low income families who don't have the mens to go grocery shopping, while other like elderly residents, find it difficult to leave their homes to go food shopping.
  • Emergency food is needed more than ever, as some people experience job loses due to COVID-19.Young households are at risk of not receiving a healthy meal they would have received otherwise from schools and family services that would have been running summer programs but have been forced to closed.
  • Having weekly shopping being delivered to these residents will certainly relieve a lot of pressure. We want to hopefully erase some of the uncertainty of when these households will receive their next meal, and relieve financial strain.
