What will I be doing?

  • Set up the room, turn on the computers and gather any other equipment required for the session

    Greet users and make people feel welcome


  • Some of the activities you will be asked to help with include… using email, internet safety, searching the internet, accessing public services, job hunting, using social media for job search, CV building, , online and mobile banking, creating documents and keeping information safe.
  • Use the monitoring tools to register learners, record attendance and progress

    Help users learn the basics
  • Help people feel at ease in front of a computer, increasing the confidence of the users

  • Take time to get to know learners, develop an understanding of their individual abilities
  • Act as an advocate of the benefits of being online
    Offer informal advice on how to stay safe online
    Help with outreach, encouraging people to come along to the sessions

Commitment

  • Typically 3 hours per session.
    Volunteers will be assigned to one Centre based on their availability, but can volunteer to do more than one session a week to build their experience.
  • Volunteers will undertake training to become a Digital Champion and will deliver sessions between Jan 2020 til April 2021 supporting our staff team in the delivery of our recently funded project, Digital Skills for Work. Poplar HARCA is one of 15 organisations across the UK funded to tackle the digital skills gap as part of the Power Up initiative, run by Good Things Foundation, with financial support from J.P. Morgan.
