What will I be doing?

  • We will be undertaking dementia and other access needs workshops.
  • Duties to be undertaken include:
     Welcoming & escorting people living with dementia and their carers into the museum and throughout the session;
     Setting up & clearing out the Education Room with resources & refreshments;
     Assist the workshop facilitator with delivery
     Observational evaluation completion
  • Ideally you will have:
     An interest in Victorian art, museum education and Middle Eastern art and culture;
     A willingness to work and communicate with people living with dementia and their carers
     An amiable and pleasant manner

What impact will this have?

  • You will be helping more groups with access needs to come to the museum
  • You will be helping people with dementia and their carers to have an interesting experience in the museum
  • This opportunity will offer the right person a chance to get involved with the work of the museum and museum education.

Commitment

  • Volunteering will be on an ad hoc basis when the workshops are booked in. Volunteers will need to come in for 3 hours at a time.
  • 3 workshops will be taking place in autumn 2019. There will be other access needs workshops taking place at later dates.

What else do I need to know?

  • Ideally you will have:
     An interest in Victorian art, museum education and Middle Eastern art and culture;
     A willingness to work and communicate with people living with dementia and their carers
     An amiable and pleasant manner

Expenses

  • Up to £6 in travel expenses can be covered on receipt of a ticket or journey print out

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required
