What will I be doing?

  • Setting up and clearing up the cafe
  • Greeting attendees and offering light refreshments
  • Engaging with attendees and ensuring everyone is included in a way which suits them
  • Assisting the group facilitator and any guest speakers with activities and discussions
  • If you have a particular interest, skill or hobby which would be beneficial to a group of people affected by dementia, you can discuss this with the facilitator

What impact will this have?

  • You’ll enable people affected by dementia to participate in a variety of meaningful activities in a social setting, from chatting and sharing memories to gardening or talking about current affairs.
  • Your support at the group will aim to reduce social isolation and contribute to the well-being of people affected by dementia
  • Through this group and your time with Alzheimer's Society, you will contribute to social change within the local community and nationally

Commitment

  • The group takes place on the 1st Tuesday of every month from 2.30pm - 4pm
  • Volunteers are needed from 2pm - 4.30pm to help prepare and finish up after the session

What else do I need to know?

  • If you have accessibility need we’ll make reasonable adjustments to enable you to volunteer.

  • We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, communities and experiences. We will make you feel welcome, included and respected because together we are united.

Expenses

  • Alzheimer's Society reimburses reasonable travel expenses. These will be agreed with your role manager before taking on the role

Background checks

  • A DBS check is required

Training

  • Each volunteer role at Alzheimer's Society has a Learning Pathway
  • Volunteers receive a Welcome Day, Safeguarding session and access to online learning as standard
  • Volunteers have the opportunity to attend other training sessions provided by Alzheimer's Society
