What will I be doing?

  • Cafés run for a couple of hours a week. They are places for people living with dementia, their carers, family and friends to meet, socialise, do activities and get support and information.
  • Welcoming, talking and listening to people living with dementia, their carers and friends
  • Preparing and serving refreshments (and washing up afterwards)
  • Liaising with the Café Coordinator/ Senior Volunteer to support activities

What impact will this have?

  • supporting carers of people with dementia
  • enabling people with dementia to continue to take part in activities in their community
  • enabling people affected by dementia, carers, family and friends to meet, socialise, do activities and get support and information.

Commitment

  • Dementia Cafés/ Memory Lounges run for around 2hrs. Café Dementia Café Volunteers are needed for around 2 and a half hours.
  • Dementia Café Senior Volunteers are needed for additional hours (flexible) to organise activities.

What else do I need to know?

  • Although the cafés have similar programmes of activities they are all very different and there will be a role to suit most volunteers.

  • We have fun and have an increasing programme of outings.

  • Dementia Friends - basic introduction to dementia

  • ongoing on the job training
  • courses and briefings including: health and safety, GDPR, safeguarding, activities for people with dementia, meetings and monthly information
