Location: 1 Cressfield Close , London, NW5 4BN (see map)

Travel: Kentish Town station. Gospel Oak Station bus stop.

Start date: 13/08/2019 (ongoing)

What will I be doing?

  • After an initial health and safety briefing, your team will be taken on a fun and educational tour of the farm, meeting some of the animals up close and finding out what tasks are on offer for the day.

Examples of jobs include painting fences and walls, muck heap maintenance, gardening and event preparation (where applicable).

  • You are then invited to choose which job you'd like to take on and who you'd like to work with, and given all the equipment and materials needed for it. Your supervisor is always close by to provide any help, advice or extra equipment as necessary.
  • Lunch is usually around 12:30 pm, for 1 hour. We don't have catering facilities on site, but there are a number of options for your team to choose from:

    - Bring in your own packed lunches
    - Ordering in on the day from somewhere like Dominos
    - Planning a bit further ahead and ordering platters from Pret or M&S, or your own preferred caterer
    - Queen's Crescent has a good workman's cafe and fish and chip shop (5 min walk)
    - Kentish Town Road is a 15 min walk away, with all the usual high street shops and fast food chains

  • After lunch, you can either return to the job you were doing before or swap with a colleague, the choice is yours. We don't want you to get bored or not enjoy yourself, as well as get the sense of achievement you'll get from a day's work on the farm.
  • We down tools and pack away at around 3:30pm, and the group are invited to come into the goats enclosure to meet our caprine colleagues up close and get selfies and goaty cuddles.
  • We always try and squeeze in a group photo for posterity and then your team are free to decamp to a local pub for a well earned beverage.

What impact will this have?

  • Our 47 year old 4.5 acre urban farm in the heart of Camden needs your help. Our group volunteering days are vital to our ongoing operations, and allow us to keep the farm in the best possible condition for our local community.
  • The manpower your team provides on the day helps to keep day to day tasks at a manageable level for staff, and can also mean sometimes we can get larger projects off the ground too.
  • We believe it's really important for visitors and volunteers alike to see how volunteering is vital to the farm's success. Our CSR days are very popular and very often lead to repeat visits. Volunteering with us is addictive and fun, so you may well find it helps you as well as us!
  • The fee your company pays for the day obviously goes a long way too! It helps us keep a good stock of functional equipment and buy materials for much needed maintenance jobs and building works. With government funding always under threat, we have to find alternative ways to fund this much needed rural retreat in the busy city.
  • PLEASE NOTE: This enquiry page is for corporate groups only. We advertise for individual volunteering roles as and when they are available. Thank you.

  • Volunteers are asked to wear clothing that they don't mind getting a little grubby, maybe even with a paint splat or two.

Suitable footwear is also essential; wellies, old trainers or hiking boots are perfect. We do have a stock of pre-loved wellies if needed.
  • Please also bear in mind that you will be working outdoors, so think about bringing raincoats, hats and suncream, depending on the season.
